In 1988 I was commissioned by Penn State University to produce an Olympic poster. I was asked to incorporate 7 images into the poster. It was a wonderful addition to my portfolio.
About 20 years ago I added a new art medium to my resume. One of my instructors, Caitlin Hyde, taught me how to design flameworked beads. The melting glass was totally mesmerizing. A later instructor, Carl Durance, taught me how to layer glass to make pendants. With the input of these wonderful experts I found the love of doing glass fusion pendants in combination with wire wrapping.
Please enjoy my collection of fine art and feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to connecting with you and sharing my love of art.
Have a lovely day, Joan
Thank you so much for visiting my site. It gives me great pleasure to show you my love of the outdoors through my artwork. I capture interesting nature scenes with my camera and then transfer it to canvas using ink and/or acrylic paint. Early in my education I was trained by phenomenal art teachers, who were artists in their own right, Birgit Bateman, Betty Goodfellow, and Bob Mason. They recommended the use of ink, rather than pencil, to promote confidence in my strokes. They also recommended the use of only six paint colours (red, yellow, blue, white, black, and brown) to create whatever colours I needed. In response to their wisdom, I became comfortable with using ink and acrylic paint as my chosen medium. When I am working on a realistic piece, I totally relax and get caught up in reproducing the detail, rhythm, and complexity of nature and wildlife.
